Ganga Hospital and Rotary Club jointly inaugurated “Project Shakthi”

Ganga Hospital and Rotary Club, Coimbatore have launched a mobile screening facility for Breast Cancer under a special scheme Project Shakthi. An exclusively designed bus with ultra-modern facilities including Hologic Mammogram and other testing equipment. Project Shakthi has been launched to create widespread awareness among women on the need to detect breast cancer at an early stage and treat it on time. This will largely mitigate mortality caused by breast cancer which contributes to about 26% cancer cases.

The public launch of the programme was organized at Plant 1 premises of Pricol Limited, at Periyanaickenpalayam. The launch at Pricol becomes significant because the Coimbatore Plant of Pricol Ltd has 25% of its workforce women.

The programme was inaugurated on 25th May 2022 by Dr.S. Raja Sabapath, Chairman (Division of Plastic, Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery) Ganga Hospital, Dr. Raja Shanmuga Krishnan, Project In-Charge and Mr.K.Palaniappan, President, Rotary Club Coimbatore, in the presence of Mr. Vijay Mohan, Founder of Pricol, Mrs.Vanitha Mohan, Chairman Pricol Limited and Mrs.Lakshmi Mohan, President of Pricol Corporate Services.

276 women employees above 40 years age at Pricol Ltd have been screened for possible malignancy. Based on the report, the required persons will be referred to the hospital for further procedures and treatment. Women being naturally shy and reticent have to be persuaded and counselled to undergo the test which was taken up by the HR Dept. of Pricol Ltd as a relentless effort. This can become a model exercise for Ganga and Rotary to emulate going forward.

The required treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and breast reconstruction, etc will be done free of cost for the needy by Rotary Club of Metropolis.
