Incessant rains overflow Siruvani Dam

Sight of a fully filled Siruvani Dam comes after four years following heavy and constant rainfall in the region. Siruvani dam is filled to the brim bringing a smile on the faces of Agriculturists and the water is being discharged to Bhavani River through Pillur dam and Attappady in Kerala to prevent an unlikely situation.

The officials said that though there was less rains in the catchments, there was abundant rainfall in Muthikulam, considered the main water source for Siruvani dam. Pillur dam also received an inflow of 10,000 cubic feet. Of that 6,000 cubic feet was discharged into the Bhavani river. Following this, the revenue officials asked people staying along the river banks to move to a safer location.

Also due to heavy rains, Collector T N Hariharan announced leave for schools in Valparai on Wednesday as well. The schools will remain closed for the third consecutive day.
