FIDE Chess Olympiad in Chennai : 4 years’ work done in just 4 months!

Hosting the Chess Olympiad needs 4 years’ time for preparation but under the guidance of Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, it was made beyond the expectations of the FIDE President and the organizers of the event, said Tamil Nadu Environment Minister Meyyananthan on Thursday at a press meet held in Chennai.

The 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held this summer in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The Minister said that it will take place at the beautiful sides of Mahabalipuram.

It will begin coming July 27th and will go on till August 10. 2000 international players from 200+ countries will take part in this mega event, and they and the visitors will witness the reputed hospitality of Tamil Nadu, the Minister added.

The venue will be the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort & Convention Center, 60 kilometers south of central Chennai. It is located in Mamallapuram, one of the famous tourist sites in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of seventh- and eighth-century Hindu monuments.It will be the first time that an Olympiad will be held in India.

He said Chennai is home to 25 Grand Masters in Chess including the legendary Viswanathan Anand, and the rising international sensation Praggnanandhaa, and in that sense, it is the Chess Capital in India.
