Determination & Attitude Crucial to Success

– Indra Soundarajan

The Chief Guest shared the importance of cultivating the habit of reading.

He appealed to the students to use their smartphones less, and get smart by reading valuable books.

When the great African leader Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, he was only allowed one privilege, and that was left to his choice.

He did not ask blankets, pillows or anything to comfort him but books to read. Indra Soundarajan said that reading has great impact on a person, and he wanted the students to cultivate this habit.

There is no one who would not love to be the victor in every attempt he/she makes. But could there be any secret to success?

He shared that such a question was raised by a young man to one of the greatest philosophers of all time, Socrates.

Socrates asked the man to come to a riverside. They walked towards the river slowly. Soon the water level reached their necks. Suddenly Socrates held the man’s neck and kept pushing his head under water.

The man struggled to get the air and after a while the philosopher released him. Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when your head was in the water?” The young man replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air while you were in the water, then you will get it. There is no other secret.”

Indra Soundarajan said that everyone who loves to win needs to have one-hundred per cent determination and zero per cent diversion to reach their destiny. He added that having good attitude and wise mentors also become crucial for one to win.
