Hardline group creates ruckus after students offer Namaz inside school

After a video of Hindu hardline group creating ruckus in a government school in Karnataka, over Muslim students offering namaz (prayers) District Collector of Kolar, Umesh Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

As per reports, a video of around 25-30 students of Mulbagal Someswara Palaya Bale Changappa Government Kannada Model Higher Primary School offering Friday namaz within the school premises surfaced online, on Sunday (Jan.23), and in that video members of an Hindu organization could be seen entering the school office and shouting, creating ruckus.

The group questioned how the headmistress could allow this to happen in the school premises. With the intervention of police, the protestors were moved from the campus, but still they argued with the policemen.

The News Minute reported that in the video, one of the protestors from the group could be heard saying that this whole incident has spoiled the image of the school, which has a legacy of producing students who went on to become IAS and IPS officers.

The commotion created by the religious group has made major news, now. The headmistress of the school Uma Devi, who earlier denied giving permission for the students to offer Namaz, had admitted that she had given consent to the students, and the same was confirmed by Block Education Officer of the region Girijeshwari Devi, TNM shared.

The school has a total strength of 375 students, and out of that 165 belong to the Muslim Community. After the pandemic, students who go out to offer Namaz were staying at home for the rest of the day, hence they were allowed to do the prayers inside the campus, and it was not objected by students belonging to other communities either. The incident is being enquired currently.
