SNS Academy students explore the power of A.I.

Akash is a young design-thinker from SNS Academy, whose hobby is developing video games, and he is aspiring to step inside civil service.

In just 4 days he has developed a mobile game called Alpha Apocalypse, in which the player has to attack, dodge and evade zombies. He has developed this game using Artificial Intelligence, and he is much interested in this evolving field.

We know that understanding A.I. requires patience, proposing concepts using A.I. need clear thinking, making a prototype using it demands a working model with a neat design; all these were easily visible at the models and concepts exhibited by Students of SNS Academy.

Akash’s project is just one of the 400 Projects based on A.I. which have been presented by students of the academy at Spectrum 2021, an annual intra-school science and technology program.

The students have taken problem statements from different sectors including agriculture, automobiles, healthcare, entertainment, education etc.

Manasi of Grade 11 demonstrated Smart Irrigation, a concept which uses sensors to find the moisture content of the field, and intimate farmers about the quantity needed for watering the land.

Divya Prakash demonstrated how AI can possibly help cars cruise different terrains, detect driver’s behaviour and shift to auto-pilot, detect presence of fog and deploy night vision mode and display the path on the big infotainment screen of the vehicle.

Prarthana who wants to be a banker also wishes to develop software using AI that can provide better cyber security, and she proposed her concepts. Not just the senior level students, even the tiny tots made simple projects that speaks more about A.I.

Athietha Prabhu highlighted how Personalised Medications can provide customised healthcare solutions that can define the cause of illness better and help the patient find the right treatment with A.I.’s support.

Shaivithaa proposed a technology that can selectively target weeds in a farm and deploy pesticides precisely on the weeds, reducing the dose to optimum level without causing great harm to the land.

The students have displayed many essential projects and concepts needed in today’s world, and the Chairman of SNS Educational Institutions S.N.Subramanian visited the exhibition hall and took a glance at the projects, and appreciated the kids for coming up with such concepts.

“This is an annual event and our focus is to inculcate students with Scientific temper and technological understanding from their childhood. Every year we give them a theme, and this we have given AI,” said P.R.Sheeja, Principal, SNS Academy.

“Right from LKG, we teach how AI can be introduced in daily life, and education to our kids. Since we use AI games in teaching and learning practices, it has become easy for them to learn more about AI, and since we follow design-thinking model, A.I. enters their minds easily,” she added.

She added that the efforts taken by the students will be evaluated and credit points will be given to them at the end of the academic year. Prof.Sumathi, Head of IT at SNS Engineering College evaluated the works of students. She said, A.I. is going to revolutionize every industry, and it is a great opportunity for students to explore this field at a young age.
