National Conference on Recent Advances in Computing and IT at PSG iTech

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research organized the National Conference on Recent Advances in Computing and Information Technology (NCRACIT – 2021).

It was a two-day conference organized during the 3rd and 4th December 2021 on the theme Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. The conference was well-attended by faculty members, students, delegates from various colleges in Tamil Nadu and southern parts of India.

The conference was aimed to bring the best minds together to share the knowledge and provide a platform to exchange innovative ideas in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision.

The inaugural function started with an invocation and welcome address by R.Manimegalai, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department. She welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of conducting conferences by touching upon several insights on the theme of the conference. V.C.Mahavishnu, one of the organizing secretaries presented the conference report. In total 83 papers were received, after double-blind review 41 papers were accepted for presentation.

Principal G.Chandramohan, shared his views on Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence and compared it to the human brain and its functionalities. He also briefed about the importance of Cyber security and its uses in various fields.

P.V.Mohanram, Secretary at PSG iTech, highlighted the importance of presenting papers at international conferences. He asked the students to participate and publish papers in Scopus indexed journals. He underlined the use of Artificial Intelligence in Railways, Market Trends, Healthcare and Self-driving cars, etc. He also quoted an example from Mahabharata where Sanchaya was informing the scenario of war field to Dhritarashtra which is similar to computer vision technology.

The chief guest of the conference Ganesh Kumar Sundaram, the Vice President – Strategic Initiatives at Payoda Technologies, Coimbatore enlightened the audience by illustrating the future of Artificial Intelligence. He elaborately discussed the research issues, challenges and industry trends in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision.  He highlighted on different use cases of Artificial Intelligence such as Security, Finance, Medical, Autonomous Vehicles, etc. He stressed the importance of upskilling the students in the following domains: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Robotics, Computer Vision and Convolutional Neural Networks. He encouraged the students to contribute in open-source community projects. The inaugural address ended with Question-Answer session where several students had the opportunity to interact with the chief guest.

N Aravindhraj, one of the organizing secretaries of the conference proposed the formal vote of thanks. He extended his heartfelt thanks to all Dignitaries and students who participated and helped in making the conference a great success.
