Ophthalmology Conference at CODISSIA begins in a grand manner

The 76th annual conference of All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) known as “AIOC 2018”, a three day conference on ophthalmology, commenced recently at CODISSIA trade fair complex.

The three day conference is organised under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association & Coimbatore Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons.

Since, Coimbatore is hosting this mega conference, as many as 6,000 Ophthalmologists from various parts of the country and across the globe participated. Besides, over 1500 trade delegates also took part of this conference. Dr Ramamurthy, Organising Chairman of “AIOC 2018”, welcomed the gathering of doctors to the conference. Dr Santhan Gopal, President of AIOS, introduced the incoming President Dr Ajit Babu Majji to the members of the society. This was followed by the installation of the new office bearers of the society.

Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Odisha Skill Development Authority and Independent Director – Mindtree was the Chief Guest. While Dr. B. K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore and Padmashri Dr. P. Namperumalsumy,  Chairman Emeritus, Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai were the Guests of Honour. The programme comprised of technical skill transfer course, surgical skill transfer course, Instruction courses, Symposia, Scientific Papers, Posters and Videos. Micro-management of the conference with new ideas and technology like bar coded entry, CCTV surveillance, Wi-Fi across venue, conference shuttles to cover entire Coimbatore.

Famous classical dance exponent Shobana and her team will present a special dance recital. A walkathon will also be organized in the evening with former India Cricket Captain  Sourav Ganguly which begins at 06:30 morning from CODISSIA on Friday (Feb. 23) followed by banquet dinner and light music programme by playback singers Mano and K S Chitra with pianist Stephen Devassy, Ranjini Jose, Geo, Saleel and troupe. According to a release, a total of 327 workshops on ophthalmic surgery will be conducted for 450 hours in 16 sessions. More than 50 international ophthalmic surgeons will attend the conference.
