1.5 crore vaccines ordered initially for 18+ individuals’ vaccination – CM Palaniswami

Tamil Nadu is witnessing the heavy impact of covid’s second-wave in the last few days. So far 11.13 lakh persons have been infected in the State. It has 1,08,855 active COVID-19 cases while 14,043 have been discharged.

However, vaccination drive is also going in full-swing here. Till Tuesday (Apr.27), 55.51 lakh people have been vaccinated in the state. From May 1, all citizens above the age of 18 across the country can receive covid-shots from vaccination centers, both private and government.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K.Palaniswami announced on Wednesday that the State Government has placed an order to procure 1.5 crore vaccines initially, and see that the people within the 18-44 age category get vaccinated from Saturday.

He said “The role of vaccines in controlling corona infection is important…Realizing the severity of the corona infection, everyone over the age of 18 should be vaccinated regularly.”

In an official statement from the State Government, it was mentioned that Tamil Nadu is the first State in India to announce free vaccines for all. As the infection is spreading fast, the Tamil Nadu government has intensified the vaccination process in the state.

“Works to vaccinate people between 14 and 45 is going on under the command of Chief Minister. Initially an order for 1.50 crore vaccines have been placed by the TN Government through Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation Limited, and will be distributed through the same agency”, a press note conveyed.
