General Engineering Industries should be given exemption from night curfew – CODISSIA appeals Govt!

Only on April 8, 2021, the Tamil Nadu Government issued restrictions to cut and control covid spread. Witnessing continuous surge in the new covid cases in the State, it has once again released fresh set of Covid restriction, on Sunday, in which it announced night curfew between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

In the official press release, several new restrictions were detailed. In connection with Industries,  it was mentioned that except Continuous Process Industries and Essential Goods manufacturing industries, all other industries should down their shutters during the curfew timings.

Regarding this, M.V.Ramesh Babu, President, CODISSIA said that in Coimbatore alone there are 1 lakh MSMEs under the ‘general engineering category’. Among them only 20-30% work in three shifts including night shifts. Only in the recent times, engineering and engineering based industries have started attaining stability from the previous lockdown and other issues.

He pointed that these industries would have planned to hold shifts according to their recently made commitments. Cutting their working hours will impact their business much. Ramesh mentioned that the manufacturing industries did not face any major covid related health issues so far, and they work adhering to all Covid-norms.
With these, he emphasized that just like how the government has given exemption to Continous Process Industries, they should also consider granting permission for the industries in General Engineering category.
