TNAU educates farmers on quality seed production techniques

The Department of Pulses belonging to TNAU’s Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics conducted a training program for the farmers of Allapalayam Village recently on Quality Seed Production Techniques in Pulses.

About 30 farmers from Annur and nearby areas undertaking seed production in pulses attended the training program. Geetha, Director of Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, TNAU shared with them about the high-yielding varieties of pulses and the role of quality seed production in increasing the farmers’ income.

In the training session, the faculty explained to the farmers about the importance and procedures to be followed for maintenance of genetic purity in redgram seed production, seed quality enhancement and techniques to be followed for quality seed production in pulses, various agronomic principles and practices to be followed in seed production of pulses for achieving higher yield, Integrated Pest management practices to be followed and disease management practices.

This program was held under the National Agricultural Development Programme scheme on ‘Augmentation of Seed Replacement Rate in Pulses and Oilseeds through Farmers’ Participatory Seed Production.’
