Several National and Olympic medal-winning sports-stars from Punjab have cautioned the Central Government that they will return their medals and awards if the Govt fails to withdraw its Farm Laws 2020.
A section of sports stars and award winning coaches from Punjab conveyed this through a press-conference arranged at Jalandhar Press Club on Tuesday. Reports state that the sportstars have said that the new laws are not in favor of farmers.
“All the Padma and Arjuna awards, all medal will be returned by Punjab’s sportspersons…there will be around 150 of them,” said one of the speakers at the press conference.
Sources said “Wrestler and Padma Shri awardee Kartar Singh, Olympic gold medalist hockey player Gurmail Singh, who is also an Arjuna awardee, Olympic hockey player and Arjuna awardee Sajjan Cheema, and former Indian hockey captain Rajbir Kaur, often called “Golden Girl”, are among the sports-stars and coaches standing in support with the farmers.
