Kongunadu Arts and Science College was established in 1973 and it was awarded Autonomous status in 2004-2005. The college has recently been awarded the status of “College of Excellence” by UGC.

The President of the college Dr.M.Aruchami enriched the infrastructure of the examination Cell with the state-of-the-art facilities. The Secretary and Director of the college Dr.C.A.Vasuki constantly encourages and motivates the activities of the staff members of the cell to maintain the higher academic quality of the cell. Dr.T.Muraleeswari, Principal of the college extends her constant support to the cell.

In an autonomous College, an examination cell plays a pivotal role in conducting examination and establishing the quality, creditability and confidentiality of the institution. The College is offering 34 different disciplines in which nearly 4260 students are pursuing their studies including research programmes.

Examination is used as a tool to evaluate the knowledge and skill the students have acquired from the college in their concerned subjects. So examination is a benchmark for assessing the capability of the students and hence the examination cell in an autonomous college can be considered as the central nervous system.

The examination Cell has well qualified staff members who have been appointed as per UGC norms. The cell is headed by the Controller of Examinations, Dr.S.Logaswamy, Associate Professor in Zoology who has been deputed to look after the examination cell in addition to his departmental assigned work and he assumed Office in 2009.

He has 29 years of service and served as subject expert, examiner, university representative, board member, academic council member in many Colleges. He has been rendering his dedicated service and producing reforms with his innovative ideas to enhance the infrastructure of the examination cell and to improve the quality of the examinations conducted in the college. He has produced 3 Ph.D and 10 M.Phil scholars and published more than 30 articles in both National and International journals.

The Controller of Examination is assisted by the Deputy Controller of Examinations, R.Saradha, who has high academic credentials relevant to her career. She has been looking after all the activities related to examinations and offering her devoted and determined service in accomplishing the work handed over.

The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), which includes the choice of core, elective, allied and open choice was introduced during the academic year 2005 – 2006 as directed by Bharathiar University, TANSCHE and UGC.

The cell has been conducting various examinations since autonomy. Two continuous internal assessment examinations are conducted per semester in consultation with examination cell. In addition, end of semester theory examinations, practical examinations, project viva examinations for regular courses are conducted in each semester.

Along with the written examination, online examinations are also conducted for certain subjects which require the objective type questions. Further, supplementary and special examinations are conducted for the students who have arrear in their subjects and the students who have participated in special events during the examination periods on behalf of the college respectively.

Above all, special supplementary examinations are conducted for those students who failed in the final semester to get through the subjects and to continue higher studies in the same academic year, if they succeeded.

The unique service rendered to the students’ community is as follows
• The examination personnel are appointed in the ratio of 50 : 50 for both theory and practical.
• The examination personnel are selected from the examiners panel submitted by the Boards of studies of each department.
• Question papers are scrutinized with well experienced external staff members.
• Result is declared within a week after the last Examination.
• Marks statements with high security features are given to the students within a week after the declaration of results.
• From this semester onwards the students can get their hall tickets through online by which their time can be saved.

The unique features of the cell are the introduction of Digital Mark Entry System which is exclusively used for the entry of marks scored by the student in Continuous Internal Assessment. It is paperless and user friendly application results in the error free entry of marks and speedy declaration of results.

Secondly, the introduction of SMS facility and Mobile assessment in getting the information related to Examinations and results as well, which are students’ friendly applications and they all get benefitted. In addition to that a website exclusively for examination cell has been established to expose the examination details for the benefit of students.

Thirdly, the introduction of an exclusive Direct verify system to get to monitor the genuinely of certificates which companies require when a student gets appointment in a company. Kongunadu is the first college to introduce this system among the colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University.

In toto, the Examination Cell has been contributing a significant role and scored the maximum marks in NAAC assessment during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle which ranked ‘A’ Grade with high CGPA, which has lifted the college to no. 1 status in Bharathiar University Colleges. The examination cell is meticulously proceeding in its path and it deserves credit for its quality of comprehensive work.
