Photographers RamachandiranGovindaraj’s ‘Life and Death’ and SumanChakrabarty’s ‘Riot of Colors’ were the winners of the prestigiousDJ Memorial Photography Contest 2020.
Lakshmi Machine Works Limited (LMW) has instituted the DJ Memorial Photography Contest (DJMPC) in 2012 in memory of its past Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. D. Jayavarthanavelu (DJ), who had an immense passion for photography. DJMPC is an annual competitive event that identifies, recognizes and honors talent in photography.
The year 2020 marks the ninth edition of DJMPC. Entries from participants were accepted under two categories, namely, Wildlife and Sunrise/Sunset this year. The contest has received 9,393 images from 2,223 participants from around the world. Within each category of the contest besides, the top two prizes; another ten participants are awarded with a certificate of merit for their efforts. It is notable that DJMPC carries a prize money that is one among the largest when compared with similar competitions held across the globe.
Considering the prevailing pandemic situation, this year a physical event was not conducted in Coimbatore. Nevertheless, DJMPC 2020 culminated with an online awards ceremony held on Thursday. Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman and Managing Director, LMW, delivered a special address during the event and congratulated the prize winners.
