Supply chain is the decider: CII

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a conference today (30th, Aug 2017) on Logistics, discussing about the current and future scenario of the industry in the country with the expert views of leading service providers TVS Logistics and Transport Corporation India.

VineetAgarwal, Managing Director, Transport Corporation of India says, “A country’s growth lies beneath on logistics. Without satisfying a comfortable life for a citizen, a nation cannot develop. Over the past two decades India has seen vast transformation and tremendous growth in logistics.  The maturity of service private providers and the users had changed the entire nature of the business. We are now moving into a new era of supply chain management system that is being widely understood and acknowledged by everyone”.

There are evident factors to say logistics as developing industry. Government of India had taken huge interest in infrastructure building, macro changes in policy and essential changesin consumer trends has effect a whooping development to the logistic sector.

Government’s futuristic plan regarding the infrastructure is an appreciable move that will help the service providers and the users for at least 10 to 20 years. India was at 54th place in the logistic performance index by the World Bank for the year 2014. By 2016, we moved ahead to 35th place. This shows the amount of growth this sector has, he added.

The multi model shift is again a great initiative by the government that will fasten the business. Consumer trends are witnessing a huge change which will impact on the city logistics and city infrastructure. The demand and supply is changing time to time. Overall the industry is growing rapidly and is a healthy indication said VineetAgarwal.

In the past developing port, running trucks, operating warehouses, freight forwarding was termed as Logistics. But now it is getting segmented and it’s a good sign for logistics sector. We are a third party service provider. We utilize the infrastructure built by someone and provide value to the end user. The knowledge of managing the supply chain management has effectively become the essential and absolute part of business, says R. Dinesh, Managing Director, TVS Logistics Services Ltd.

Supply chain management is the future for logistics. Most Asian companies do not outsource other than transport. It becomes a major hinder for the business. Either big or small, in order to demand a value for business a company has to outsource, choose the right partner, defining what to outsource and right level of skill. It becomes the differentiator to all companies around the globe, he added.
