International Conference on ‘Waste Water Management’ at KCT

At Kumaraguru College of Technology, Departments of Civil Engineering, Textile Technology and Biotechnology jointly organized an International Conference on ‘Waste Water Management’ (ICWW17) from 17th to 19th August 2017 in collaboration with Universities, NGOs, professional societies, industries and leading institutes in India and abroad including Tel Aviv University, Israel and Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic. The conference will explore sustainable and innovative solutions to implement effective Waste Water Management and address water-pollution.

Arumugam Kalimuthu, Program Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Technical Assistance Program, WASH Institute, New Delhi, was the chief guest of the conference and he spoke about the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Nation’s increasing awareness towards a clean environment.  Prof. Dror Avisar, Tel Aviv University, Israel and Dr. Jiri Militky, Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, gave the conference message and spoke about the importance of reusing treated water for various purposes and emphasized the less wastage of water. They also gave their lecture on the topics of ‘Hospital Waste Management and Nano membranes of waste water’.  Dr.R.S. Kumar, Principal, KCT gave the welcome address and Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, KCT gave the presidential address and emphasized on our society’s critical need towards the saving of our nature’s blessing, the Water. S.Nagaragen, President, Dyers Association, Tirupur, (the Guest of honor), spoke about the importance of treating and reusing the textile industries wastewater.

Following this, the Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (DEWATS) project under KCT’s Centre of Water and Environmental Studies (Kc.WES) has been launched. DEWATS has a capacity to treat waste water of around 10 Million Liters per Day.  The school children, who won in various competitions, held in waste water management awareness contest, ‘Raindrop’ organized prior to the conference were awarded with prizes.

As the highlight of the conference, KCT-ICWW 2017 Recognition Awards were given to three personalities namely A.Ambothi (Agriculturist), R.Shunmugam (Odanthurai Panchayat) and Dr.Rajah Vijaya Kumar, Scientist) for their contribution to the society towards sustainable wastewater management.
