Amrita Professor’s research holds versatile & global applications

Dr.E. A.Gopalakrishnan, whose research in early warning systems in physics that could be applied to areas ranging from finance to healthcare has been cited by Dominic Cummings, Chief Advisor to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan currently serves as Assistant Professor (SG) at Amrita Center for Computational Engineering and Networking (CEN), Coimbatore Campus. Prof. Partha Sharathy Dutta (Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIT Ropar) also contributed towards this work.

“The predictive techniques described in our research can be utilized in specific areas such as finance, healthcare, power generation, ecosystem management and so on. For example, effective utilization of predictive techniques in healthcare is highly pertinent to India where we spent a considerable amount of money in healthcare” says Dr. Gopalakrishnan

He says that it will be beneficial for investors in a growing economy if we can predict highly catastrophic transitions that can happen in financial markets using the available data.

He added “the techniques described in our paper are not just limited to the analysis of natural or physical systems. It can also be used to understand the changes that happen in social systems, he adds. He commented that currently India is going through a stage wherein lot of novel policies are implemented in various domains. It is highly pertinent to understand the impact of these strategic decisions before and after they are implemented”
