The jewels are designed by Anukriti Jalan who has studied gemology from Gemology Institute of America. A press release said that Anukriti’s jewel designs are a blend of contemporary and traditional work.  She does a range of “heritage pieces” that are influenced by Nizami designs.” She primarily works on gold with uncut diamonds. She has also launched contemporary designs that appeal to the younger generation due to its “colour and feel.”

Anukriti Jalan started her journey doing exhibitions mostly in South India, and that got her “a lot of word of mouth” publicity. A jewellery business is based on the foundation of credibility built with the customer hence she believes “ ‘word of mouth’ and repeated clientele substantiated my self-confidence in growing the business”. Then she started a “small studio” and went on to set up a boutique. She travel extensively across India to attend and do private exhibitions and also expanded her market to USA with exhibitions in Washington DC and New York.

As women entrepreneurs, there are a lot of challenges says, Anukriti. She adds, “I’m lucky and very fortunate to have a family that has not just supported Akoya but also played an active role in mentoring me follow my passion and develop this into a business”. Her mantra for striking a balance between her personal and professional life is a basic disciplined schedule and time management. She adds “there is no magical formula here. There are sensitivities which are addressed suitably as long as your value systems are aligned. In my view, family and personal well-being is a pre-requisite for professional success.”
