Dr.P.Kaliraj, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University

PSG College of Arts and Science (PSG CAS) held its 33rd Graduation Day on 10.12 19. 37 Doctoral Degrees, 824 PG Degrees and 2,323 UG Degrees were presented by the Chief Guest of the ceremony Dr.P.Kaliraj, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University. L.Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG &Sons’ Charities was the President of the Graduation.

Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, PSG CAS in her Welcome Address said that the commitment of parents and the perseverance of the students have blossomed and this day is one to cherish. She wished the students to fulfill their responsibilities to their parents and to the nation. She wanted them to have the practice of continuous learning and wished them to be leaders in their respective domains.

The Chief Guest in his Convocation Address to the students said education is to elevate oneself and the elevated should empower society. What one has learned must reach the community as innovation, process development or by any means. It must benefit our fellow human beings, he said.

He said this current globalized world poses several challenges and opportunities especially for developing countries; and to face that technology exposure is critical. Mentioning that 21st Century is hailed as Age of Knowledge, he said a nation must optimally use data as its raw-material to improve human intelligence, technology and analysis tool. He said when knowledge of young minds is fortified with virtues, it will aid in nation-building.

Addressing the parents, he asked them to not force their children to get first rank. He mentioned that few students would have difficulty with some subjects; for instance Mathematics. Math is the base for science studies, engineering and computer related papers; and though India is the place where Mathematics had its firm roots; many students when they come to college, don’t exhibit strength in the field and 40% failure is seen in many institutions.

He firmly said that the problem should be at the lower levels and requested PSG CAS to examine the reason for students falling short in mathematics and make a survey in their schools.
