“India is the Kohinoor diamond in the Rotary World” – Shekhar Mehta

7 Rotary Intl Districts felicitate Indian who will lead Rotary in 2021

Rotary International Districts 2981,2982,3000,3201,3202, 3231 and 3232 offered felicitation to Rotary International President Nominee Shekhar Mehta and his wife Rashi Mehta. Mr. Mehta who is nominated to be Rotary International President for the year 2021-22 is the chair and founder of real estate development company, Skyline Group. “Mehta aided in establishing 15 eye hospitals in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa   and West Bengal. He initiated a program that performed over 1,500 life-changing heart surgeries for children in South Asia. He is also the brain behind Rotary India’s TEACH Program which promotes literacy throughout India” reports say.
Shekhar Mehta who is a member of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar will be the 111th President of Rotary. The felicitation ceremony took place in Hotel Le Meridien where Shekhar Mehta was given an outstanding South Indian welcome. Madhav Chandran, Dist. Governor, RI 3201 who acted as the host said “this celebration is to reciprocate our love. Shekhar Mehta is a person who means what he says and does what he says “Madhav said Shekar’s dream is “to see Rotary win the Nobel Prize for Peace.”
The 7 Districts individually honored the RI President Nominee in accordance with the tradition of their district and a senior member from each club felicitated him. Post the felicitation, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis donated 300,000 USD to Rotary Foundation to help victims of fire accidents through their Hope After Fire project. Rtn. Sundaravadivelu, AKS Member completed his commitment of donating 94,000 USD.
Rotary Club of Cochin West donated to the Foundation 57,000 USD for Pediatric Heart Surgeries. Rotary Club of Coimbatore Texcity donated 55000 USD for project ‘I serve’ an eye surgery and treatment project. Rotary Club of Trissur donated to the Foundation 50000 USD for skill development for single moms, children and blood Bank. Rotary Club of Cochin Technopolis donated 40000 USD for Pediatric Surgeries and dialysis unit.
Rotary Club of Coimbatore Smartcity donated 35000 USD for Pediatric Cancer Treatment and establishment of Rotary Cancer Ward.
Rotary Club of Perumbavoor Central donated 30000 USD for mobile oral care center. Added with the other miscellaneous donations, the total amount pledged to Rotary Foundation on this day was 1040000 USD.
Accepting the honor, Shankhar Mehta “They say there is no limit for love, I have seen it for the past 1 hour through the adoration you all have given”. He showed his affinity with the members of the District by acknowledging their accomplishments and service as a Rotarian. He said “India is the Kohinoor diamond in the Rotary World”.
No other country anywhere in the world does valuable projects like what Rotary India is doing. “The large heartedness of Indians are reflected through these projects. We will have to ensure we do more than what we do now” He asked all the attending members to add just 1 member each to Rotary India in the next three years. He asked to standardise the activities they do. He invited past Rotary India Governors to collaborate for Water Sanitation, Environment and Health Program.
