In the inaugural address, Dr. Karthika Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, mentioned that India is not a country with cancer history. As a result of the western culture that we have imbibed, this foreign disease has slowly crept in and is now a dreadful disease. She also said that, cancer is a very challenging disease which can be either a rewarding or unrewarding experience for an oncology nurse. Training of a nurse can be compared to that of a violin string. A very tight string can break while, a loose string will not produce any music. Therefore, it is essential for nurses to receive the right training.

She also mentioned that November is a special month for Women Radiation Oncologists in memory of Dr. Marie Curie’s birthday, as she was the one who expanded the knowledge base on spontaneous radioactivity. She wished the delegates all success for a fruitful learning at the conference.
