PSG CT Hosts Golden Jubilee Reunion of 1969 Batch

PSG College of Technology (PSG CT) hosted the Golden Jubilee Reunion of the 1964-69 Batches of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Departments.

The Reunion Meet is being held between 17.8.2019 to 18.8.2019.87 members of the batch who are in their 70s attended the reunion. The program saw the Alumni batch contribute Rs. 55 Lakhs to the PSG Tech Alumni Foundation to be used for students’ scholarships.

The formal event was held on 17.8.19 and the entertainments are being held on 18.8.2019. Dr.K Prakasan, Principal, PSG CT; Dr.Rudramoorthy, Director, PSG CARE; D.Nandakumar, President, PSG Tech Alumni Association took part in the event.

Firstly, respects were paid to the 23 departed souls belonging to the batch. The Golden Jubilee Reunion Committee President- B.Govindarajan welcomed the gathering and stated the endeavors taken by the committee. He proudly stated that for the Silver Jubilee the number of attendants were 75 but for this Golden Jubilee Reunion 87 have attended which shows the energy of the Alumni.

G.Kannapan, Chairman of the 1969 Alumni Batch thanked the founders of PSG &Sons’ Charities and Dr.GRD who he said has molded them. He said many of the Alumni have served in State & Central Government Departments and are Entrepreneurs contributing to the welfare of the nation and employment to the society at large.He stated that the Alumni are glad to provide Rs.50 lakhs for the scholarship support that will be facilitated by the PSG Tech Alumni Foundation.

A.Kandaswamy Secretary of the Alumni batch conveyed about the major projects that have been carried out by the batch and the future projects in consideration.
The batch, he said, had already contributed 35 Lakhs out of which 15 Lakhs was used by the management. The remaining 20 Lakhs which is still with the management will be added along with the Rs.55 lakhs that is given by the batch; so that the college could help the deserving students.

He said the batch has adopted two villages – Semmedu and Chinnarpathi. The later is a tribal village. In Semmedu, tha batch has reconstructed 55 houses for the poor villagers at a cost of Rs. 7.5 Lakhs.

Since the Forest Dept didn’t provide permissions to build houses for the villagers of Chinnarpathi, Rs.5 Lakhs worth of basic materials and medicines have been provided. The Secretary also conveyed that every day, Nutritious porridge is being provided to Chinnarpathi Tribal Villagers by one of the members of the batch.

He also conveyed that the Batch has adopted Mahatma Gandhi Asharamam in Anaimalai and has been provided partial financial support besides helping them with basic amenities. Talking about the future projects, he said the batch is in plans to start a Group Insurance for their members as a few of them dont have any insurance plans. The premium will be paid by 1969 Batch PSG Alumni.

Following this, the members who have achieved in Entrepreneurship, Academics, earned special awards and those who have done outstanding contributions to society were honored.

Dr.K.Prakasan said the Growth of PSG Tech correlates with the country’s growth, and cited the recent contribution by the Alumni of PSG Tech in Chandrayaan 2. He said the field of education is going through transformation and PSG Tech is looking to transcend from being a teaching institution to something extraordinary.

He also stated that the government of Tamil Nadu had sent 2 engineers to study how the foot over bridge plan was implemented as the same is wished to be done by the govt in Nungambakkam.

D.Nandakumar said the graph of participation in the reunion has seen a great increase and he congratulated the Alumni for attending this event. He appreciated the batch for adopting villages and Orphanage which he Lauded as something unique and he said the plan of Group Insurance is also a very visionary idea.

He said 20% of students who come to study in PSG Tech couldn’t continue their studies because they are in poor financial situation and they struggle to pay the fees prescribed by the Govt.

He said PSG Tech Alumni Foundation provides the money as loan and once the students finish studies, they are expected to repay. He stated that with the money that is given by the batch, many deserving students could benefit from it and thanked them.

Dr.Rudramoorthy conveyed to the gathering the message of L.Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG Institutions. He said the management has built GRD Museum which is a 40,000 Sq.Ft state of the art and unique kind of museum Coimbatore has to witness. He said the major challenge faced is to fill the exhibits in the grand museum. He said the cost would be in several crores and he asked the Alumni to keep in touch, provide their knowledge in the fruition of this museum that will honor the founder of PSG Tech greatly.

Following this a souvenir was released by Dr.K.Prakasan and the first copies were received by Dr.Rudramoorthy and Dr.Radhakrishnan, Director, PSG IAS.

After the honoring their teachers, the cheque of Rs.50 Lakhs was given by G.Kannapan, Chairman of the batch to Dr.K.Prakasan and D.Nandakumar, President, PSG Tech Alumni Association.
