KCT kick-starts National Handloom Day

The Department of Fashion Technology & KCT Business School of Kumaraguru College of Technology is celebrating “Handloom Day” on 5 and 6 August, 2019. Dr.J.Senthil, Principal, KCT along with the Coimbatore Managing Director and the 7 Presidents of Alangombu Devanga Cotton cum Silk Primary Handloom Weavers Co-op Society inaugurated the ceremony here at KCT on 5 August 2019.

The grand event aims at creating awareness about the handloom products to the younger generation as a part of the National Handloom Day celebrations. Weavers cum society members from seven weaving cooperative societies have displayed their products in the venue – The Hubble, KORE, Kumaraguru College of Technology Campus.  Alangombu Devanga, VKP SakthiVinayagar, Sennampalayam SRS, Annai TherasaMagalir, Bagathur Sowdeswari, Alangombu Sowdeswari, Vellalore Devanga Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Societies are participating and have displayed handloom Kovai Kora Cotton Sarees, organic cotton sarees, soft silk sarees, silk sarees, cotton sarees, designer stoles, towels as exhibit and also for sale. Award winning silk shawl and Tamil font Saree woven by the handloom weavers are special attraction to the visitors.

The participants have an opportunity to interact with weavers, to understand the story of handloom products, to operate the loom and the natural fibres. Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, Professor and Head, Department of Fashion Technology and Dr.B.Poongodi, Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor, KCT Business School, Kumaraguru College of Technology are coordinating the two day grand Handloom Day Celebrations.
