Alexa is a global pioneer in the world of analytical insight. Alexa global traffic rank is a measure of how a website is doing relative to all other sites on the web over the past 3 months.
Alexa gathers much of their traffic data from direct sources in the form of sites that have chosen to install the Alexa script on their site.The rank is calculated using a proprietary methodology that combines a site’s estimated average of daily unique visitors and its estimated number of page-views over the past 3 months.
Alexa also provide a similar country-specific ranking, which is a measurement of how a website ranks in a particular country relative to other sites over the past month.
In the recently released Alexa Global Rankings of top 500 websites, it was found that Google is the most visited website in the world, followed by YouTube,FB, Baidu (Chinese Search Engine), Wikipedia, Qq (Chinese Internet service portal), Taobao.com (Chinese shopping portal), Tmall (Chinese Premium Shopping site, Yahoo.Com and Amazon.com.
In the top 50 global sites, there were 2 pornography sites ranked 27 and 44. The best part comes next. In top 50 most visited sites, Google against stands first followed by Youtube, Google.co.in, Amazon.in, FB, Yahoo, SBI, Wikipedia, Hotstar and Flipkart in the top 10 line up. Image sharing social media site Instagram was ranked no.24 and there was no porn sites in the top 50 Indian sites.
It must be mentioned that sites that have not installed the Alexa script could have evaded the rankings but none the less, it is still a sign of hope that compared with global rankings, India has no porn sites in the top 50 rankings.
To be clear, take a look at global ranked sites no. 4,6 and 7. They belong to China because a majority of world population live in China. So if the calculations are right, if Indians had spent more time on porn, it would have either reflected on the global scale or on the country specific scale. The Government of India had blocked several porn sites last year and it has given good results.
