Notre Dame, an 850 year old world famous Cathedral in Paris, France caught fire in an accident on April 15th. This church is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites and due to the terrible fire tragedy, the roof, spire and some of the significant areas have been destructed by the blaze. The fire was completely extinguished after fire fighters battled it for 15 hours. Many philanthropic minds of France have agreed to rebuild their beloved symbol of France.
The cathedral was under renovation at the time of accident and the cause of the destruction is yet to be identified. The government of France has denied experts to do ground-work in the site. As of now investigations are on-going with those involved in the renovation. Sources say it is not a deliberate attack or an act of arson but the investigators are analyzing from all angles.
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France has said that in 5 years’ time, before France hosts Summer Olympics in 2024. He has expressed his concerns to build it even better and beautiful. But experts have said it will take a decade or 15 years.
L’Oreal group has promised to donate €200m, French Billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, has pledged €100m, while Businessman Bernard Arnault’s family has assured to give €200m Total – a leading oil group has pledged €100m. Along with the French elites, the UNESCO has also agreed to provide assistance.
