Western brands have captured Indian Market

The Department of Apparel & Fashion Design at PSG Tech had organized a two days National Conference on “Indian Fashion Retail” – Opportunities and Threats (NCIFR 2019) on the 8th & 9th of February. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Raja M.Shanmugam, President, Tiruppur Export Association while the Guest of Honor was Ashwin Balasubramaniam, COO, Brookfields Mall, Cbe.

The inaugural address was delivered by R.Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG Tech who said that one should not compare western wear with Indian wear because they are so many factors like Weather conditions and materials which are different between India and other countries.

Ashwin Balasubramaniam in his speech said, “When colleges arrange these kinds of programs it allows students to learn directly from the people in the industry as to what sort of a skillset is the need of the hour. A number of new brands have come up in the last 15-20 years. Brands struggling in the West are doing very well in the Indian markets”. He also asked students to take care of their health and make financial goals while they are still in their 20’s to help them sustain in the longer run

Raja M.Shanmugam, a first generation entrepreneur said, Tiruppur was not even a panchayat until a few years back. Since Tiruppur started knitwear industry, it evolved as the capital for knitwear industry and today Tiruppur holds more than 55 percent of products manufactured in India. The district has achieved this position by its sheer amount of hard work. Budding kids needs to be ready to put in hard work.

There were 10 plenary lectures by renowned speakers from presumed retail organization. The Vote of thanks was proposed by S.Banumathy, Co-ordinator-NCIFR 2019.
