India hopes for a miracle

The contest between India and Australia has heated with captains of both sides engaging in verbal spats on the field. The hosts need just five wickets to level the series. Chasing 287 to win after dismissing the hosts for 243 during their 2nd innings, India reached 112/5 at stumps on Day 5.

Batting at the crease are H.Vihari (24) and R.Pant (9), who will be hailed as heroes if the visiting team pulls a rabbit out of the hat. India got off to a poor start losing the openers cheaply. Centurion Kohli fell to Nathan Lyon for the seventh time and he surely needs to find a way to tackle him. Rahane played his usual strokes and combined well with Vihari before he gave away his wicket when the end of Day 4 was near.

The bowling onslaught has helped Australia reach a position from where they can end their losing streak on the past six-test outings and provide skipper Paine his first victory as skipper. Early on in the day it was Shami who took a career best 6-36 to dismiss the hosts.
