Rotary Club organized the National Level Wheelchair Competition

Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown (RCD) in association with the Wheelchair Federation & Ampute Sports of India, Tamilnadu Paralympic Sports Association, and RCC Central organized the 16th National Level Wheelchair Fencing Competition at KPR Institutions from March 21st to 23rd, 2024.

The event was inaugurated by District Governor nominee Rtn Chella K Ragavendra in the presence of Rtn Dr. Ramasamy (Chairman – KPR Institutions), Er Chandrasekar (Vice President – PCI ), and Project Chairman MD Rtn A Godwin.

With 200 differently-abled athletes, including 120 male and 80 female participants, hailing from various states across the nation, this event stands as a testament to their strength, determination, and resilience. These athletes have dedicated years to training, pushing themselves to their limits to showcase their abilities on a national stage.

Rtn A Godwin, Project Chairman, and Rotaract District Advisor expressed profound admiration for the differently abled athletes and the incredible work being done in the realm of sports. “This competition symbolizes the commitment and dedication required to excel, not just in sports but in every aspect of life” Rtn Godwin remarked.

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown, known for its commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities, proudly hosted this event. As RCD does sustainable para sitting volleyball and throw ball competitions for the past 10 years it aims to set up a sports complex for different abled with the support of the government and various organizations.

Rtn Godwin urged the community to support the differently-abled athletes, celebrating their achievements and standing in solidarity with them. “

The event promises to be a showcase of talent, determination, and sportsmanship. As the competition unfolds, spectators can expect thrilling matches and inspiring displays of athleticism. It is not just about winning medals; it’s about overcoming obstacles, breaking barriers, and proving that anything is possible with determination and perseverance.

RCD’s President Rtn Mohanraj and Sec Rtn Guhan extended gratitude to all supporters, including KPR Institutions, RCC Central, DD Rtn Gokulraj, AG Rtn Elango, Rtn Vardharajan and VGM Hospital. KPRIET Principal Dr Saravanan, AO Sabari, Former General Secretary of PCI Chandrasekar, Arjuna Awardee Mahadeva, General Secretary TNPVA, Dr. Albert, Mahesh Gowda (GS Karnataka sports Association), Kirubakara Raja, Dr Saran, Sharmila, Pres. Rtn Aswin and Sec Rtn Subbu of RCC Central were the other notable guests present at the event.

The valedictory function will held on 24th March 2024, at 6.00 p.m at the KPR Institutions campus with PDG Rtn Rajasekar honouring the winners with trophies and goodies. All the above guests will be also present for the valedictory function.
