Sports Day was celebrated at Kongunadu Arts

The 49th Sports Day was celebrated at Kongunadu Arts and Science College (Autonomous) on Saturday, 28th May 2022 at 10.00 am in the Marappa G. Aruchami Auditorium. Dr. C.A.Vasuki, Secretary and Director of the college presided over the function. Mrs.R.Sughasini, Additional Superintendent of Police, Crime against Women and Children, Coimbatore District was the Chief Guest of the occasion and delivered the Sports Day Address.

The function began with an invocation. Dr.M.Lekeshmanaswamy, Principal of the college welcomed the gathering.

The Secretary and Director of the college, Dr.C.A.Vasuki, in her presidential address stressed the importance of teamwork, discipline and energy that strengthen the fabric of any organization, and said that an excellent management strategy must be an integral part of education.

Keeping this in mind, the Five Star Fitness programme had been introduced for the students. She gave a brief introduction on “Yadhumagi Nirppom” and “Vilithiru” programmes proposed by Tamilnadu police under the supervision of Mrs.R. Sughasini.

“Yadhumagi Nirppom” is an initiative to develop interest in men and women to join the armed forces and train themselves in the best possible way to handle weaponry, whereas “Vilithiru” promotes women’s participation in the society’s overall productivity.

She honored the policemen who work relentlessly against the clock to protect our citizens and promote social welfare. She also cited several government schemes related to sports like Khelo India: National Programme for development of sports, which offers ample opportunities for sports and skilled athletes across the country. Sports programmes proposed by the Government of India had led to increased priority of sports and games among youngsters, she pointed out. She inculcated the value of sports culture among students through citing inspiring words of athletes.

The presidential address was followed by the presentation of the Annual Sports Report 2020-21 by Major Dr.P.K.Kavithashri, Director of Physical Education who highlighted the various achievements of Staff and Students of the college.

The eminent Chief Guest, Mrs.R.Sughasini, Additional Superintendent of Police, Crime against Women and Children, Coimbatore District began her Sports Day Address by highlighting the importance of sports participation, regardless of what the result would be, and said that participation is always a step ahead and hard work does not go in vain.  She elaborated that the sports are crucial for an individual’s overall development both physically and emotionally. Sports and Games pave the way for a healthy and robust body with a sound mind inferring a harmonious life. She concluded her speech with the message that in order to be resourceful in the competitive world, one must stay humble and be focused on his/her deeds and remain selfless.

After the Sports Day address, faculty members and students were given prizes and awards for their excellence in various sports events. Cultural programmes by the students followed. Ms.J.K.Srinivethaa of III B.Sc Computer Science (A) Sports Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme came to an end with the National Anthem.
