ITC & TNAU forge alliance to make Bhavani river basin Water Positive!

ITC, one of India’s largest conglomerates is implementing a Water Stewardship program in Karamadai block of Coimbatore, to help keep the catchment area (the area from which rain flows into a particular river or lake) near Bhavani river basin as a water-rich area.

It has roped in TNAU as its technical partner for this project by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The conglomerate intends to create water storage potential through formation of Water Harvesting Structures as well as educating farmers to optimize the water use in their respective crop.

As Technical Partner, TNAU will create awareness amidst farmers to save water through introduction of different agronomic practices as well as irrigation efficient technology. A press release mentioned that till this time ITC has saved 8.5 Million Cubic Meter of water through optimizing water usage in the Karamadai catchment.

Pannerselvam, Director, WTC- TNAU and S. Venkata Rao, Unit Head, ITC-PSPD, Coimbatore signed the MOA. This program is being executed through ITC’s CSR initiative ‘Mission Sunehra Kal’.
