Tension in Kashmir – ‘Civilians’ killed in anti-terror operation

During an anti-terror operation that took place in Hyderpora, Srinagar, Kashmir, 4 persons were shot dead by Security forces.

The operation took place in a commercial complex on Monday evening. Among the four dead, two are reported to be civilians, running businesses. The police have labelled the civilians as ‘terrorist supporters’.

One of them was identified as Dr.Mudasir Gul, a dental surgeon by training, ran a computer centre in the complex whereas the other was  Altaf Bhat, the owner of the commercial complex who also ran a hardware and cement shop there.

“The families allege that the businessmen were killed by security forces but the police insist that both of them were either killed in terrorist firing or killed during the crossfire”. “Initially police said both the businessmen were injured and eventually killed in terrorist firing but later said that they may have been caught in the cross-firing”, NDTV reported.

The police had stated that a call-center running in that commercial complex was used for terrorist activities, and the two ‘civilians’ are actually Underground Workers for Terrorists.

“The families have been demanding their bodies for the last rites. The police, however, said that the bodies cannot he handed over to families because of the law and order situation. Police said all the four bodies were buried in Handwara area of north Kashmir, 100 km from Srinagar”, report from NDTV said.
