Various approaches in Research discussed at Convention

Research Convention 2021 held at Avinashilingam Institute

Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women organized Research Convention-2021 recently. It was held on the theme ‘Designing Perspective and Scaling to Global Standards’. Prof.S.P.Thyagarajan, Chancellor of the institute delivered the inaugural address.

First Technical Session was presented by Aruna Dhathrathreyan, Emeritus Scientist and Professor, AcSIR, CSIR, CLRI, Chennai. She shared the importance of accidental discoveries, the qualities of Serendipity Researchers: curiosity, fascination, determination, open-mindedness, patience, empathy for the human condition, perseverance, intellectual honesty, and scientific intuition.  She quoted interesting examples of Serendipity such as Penicillin, Pacemaker, laminated glass, microwave Owens, stainless steel, vulcanized rubber.

S.Chinnammai, Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Madras University, Chennai. She underlined the drive factors of inter-disciplinary research and the need to be an Inter-Disciplinary designer (ID).  She stressed the inter-disciplinary principles – Three ‘C’s – Collaboration, Cooperation and Communication. She encouraged the research scholar to do more ID Research saying that the Government allots more funds towards ID Research –  under DST, SAP and RUSA.

Final technical session was handled by Suvetha, Associate Professor, PSG IMSR, Coimbatore.  She explained the various perspectives – subjective and objective research.  She stressed the Societal relevance of the research and the researcher should keep in mind the stakeholders.
