Kin donate organs of brain-dead man

Sathyamoorthy (54), a resident of Sirumugai, Coimbatore suffered major stroke and was admitted to PSG Hospitals recently. Despite treatment, he was beyond saving as he entered brain-dead state on Thursday.  The hospital’s Transplant Coordinator Chandrasekaran and his team elucidated about organ donation to the family members of the deceased, and they agreed to donate Sathyamoorthy’s organs.

His heart, liver, pair of kidneys and pair of eyes were harvested. With the support of Coimbatore Traffic Police and Coimbatore International Airport, a green corridor was created from the hospital to the airport in the morning hours on Thursday, and the heart was sent to MGM Hospital, Chennai.

1 liver and 2 kidneys has been kept for deserving patients’ benefit by PSG Hospitals adhering to TRANSTAN Guidelines, and skin is being sent to Ganga Hospital, Cbe whereas eyes shall be sent either to Sankara Hospital or Aravind Hospital, while following TRANSTAN’s rules.

Chandrasekaran added that in his 15 years’ experience he has coordinated 250 cadaver transplants. The amount of brain deaths due to road accidents were high, in the past but now they have come down. He shared that awareness about organ donation today has increased. It is his wish that maximum no. of bike riders follow traffic and road safety rules every time they ride their vehicles.
