CII Covai aims to bring big electronics players in the next 3 years

CII Coimbatore’s Electronics Task Force announced on Tuesday that it is taking measures to attract players in the Electronics Industry to enter Coimbatore.

A press meet was arranged on Tuesday at the CII Cbe Head office, where the members of the Task force Arjun Prakash, Bala murugan, Ramesh and Prashant conveyed that while Coimbatore as a city is thriving in education, manufacturing and healthcare, its output and the nation’s output in electronics is low when put up against other fields.

The members shared that the Task Force has been discussing with big electronics companies operating in India and outside the country, asking about the pros and cons of their entry and what are their expectations to enter the country, especially Coimbatore.

The members conveyed that Coimbatore’s suitability for entering into the field of electronics is very good; one factor to say this with certainty is the tech savvy and well educated youth and well designed college programs.

Bala murugan, Past Chairman, CII Cbe conveyed that today Electronic chips are in everything, and every industry is gearing up to become ‘Smart’ but the electronic hardwares needed to deliver smarter products and gadgets that all fields require is largely being imported.

A vast majority of electronic hardware components like semiconductors and chips are being imported (at least 90%). Countries like China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea started their journey in electronics and India is not in that league but if it could capitalize the opportunity now, if Coimbatore could attract Electronic Industry players here, it would lead to sustainability, job creation, fast delivery of products and better progress.

CII is aiming to bring at least 1 or 2 such players to Coimbatore in the next 2-3 years’ time, make them set up a plant here, and then move onto research in the area.
