Covai all set to host Coconut Festival

‘Coconut Festival’, the first of its kind festival in Coimbatore is all set to witness more than 3500 farmers from Tamil Nadu and across the country, get inputs from experts and also get to know about the new technologies through stalls that are to be put up.

In an attempt to promote value addition and technology in coconut farming, a two days exhibit come seminar has been arranged for coconut farmers.

The Festival is to be held on 27th and 28th of January at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex.

On briefing media, S. Narayanan, Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Coimbatore Zone said that the aim of the festival would be to making coconut trees yield more nuts and increasing the money value of coconuts by introducing various value additions.

“Due to lack of technology and awareness farmers are not getting the real benefits. Coconut is a product to which value addition is versatile starting from consumables to non-consumables.Events like these would help the farmers in that way, our approach is farm to fridge and beyond” he said.

While increasing the value addition of coconut, it could eventually boost the overall market share of coconut in the nationsaid S. Senthilnathan, Convenor of Agri based Business and Food Processing panel

“As people becomemore aware of the health importance of coconuts, a high potential for production has risen,” he noted.

While 89 stalls are to be put up in the exhibitions, the sessions are to aim at awareness, education and exploratory ideas in marketing coconut products, according to the organizers.

The Coconut Festival is supported by Coconut Development Board, Coir Board, Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), Indonesia, ICAR – Central Plantation Crop Research Institute (ICAR – CPCRI), Kasargod and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).
