Income Tax Raids & Opinion Polls – TN Election 21!

The Income Tax Department conducted IT Raids at DMK Chief M.K.Stalin’s daughter Senthamarai and son-in-law Sabareesan’s house near East Coast Road on Friday morning (April 2, 2021).

Senthamarai is reported in the media to run a CBSE school in Chennai, while Sabareesan is a businessman who is known to be an advisor of Stalin in politics.

Not just Senthamarai, the house of DMK MLA Mohan’s son Karthi in Anna Nagar, the office building of IPAC – the political consultancy firm advising DMK, are among other places that faced raids on Friday. Moments after news about raids broke, party-supporters blocked the Anna Nagar roads to show their protest. With the TN Assembly Election – 2021 just 3 days away, the raids at these places comes a shock to many.

M.K.Stalin who is campaigning at Perambalur when the raids happened, told that he got news about the raid that is happening at his daughter’s house. He remarked that he is the son of Kalaignar Karunanidhi and he will not be afraid of this. He also said that the Central Govt is trying to save ADMK Govt here.

Commenting on these raids, DMK’s General Secretary Duraimurugan said that conducting IT raids, thinking that it would strike fear in the heart of Stalin is naïve. He said Stalin has a heart of iron that is stronger than his father, former Chief Minister M.Karunanithi’s.

VCK President Thirumavalavan said that these raids are being held due to the fear that prevails in BJP. The people know about these politically-driven actions, and these raids are targeted at the opposition leaders.

On the same day of the raid, AIADMK’s channel News J reported that according to a poll conducted in 234 constituencies by Tamilaga Arasiyal, a weekly newspaper, the AIADMK-led alliance will win 123 seats. It was also reported in that survey that the Chief Minister will win in Edappadi by a large margin and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam will win in Bodinayakkanur.

Similarly, Minister SP Velumani in Thondamuthur, Minister Thangamani in Kumarapalayam and Minister CV Shanmugam in Villupuram will win, according to opinion polls.  Likewise, AIADMK alliance parties BJP’s Aiyaram Vilakku constituency candidate Khushbu and BJP leader GK Mani in Pennagaram are predicted to be victors.

But only on Wednesday, Chief Minster EPS and Deputy Chief Minister OPS in a joint statement said “Are these opinion polls considered elections? Do we not know how such polls in the past had went wrong?”

They said this at a time when the opinion poll news published by many TV Channels and other sources including Financial Express, Times Now had given DMK led alliance in Tamil Nadu the highest possibility to emerge as winners.

The ABPNetwork-CVoter survey recently revealed that as per public opinion, UPA (DMK Alliance) is leading in Tamil Nadu with 41.4% vote share (154 to 162 seats), whereas NDA (ADMK Alliance) stands second with 28.6% vote share (58 to 66 seats).
