ICAR-CIAE regional team conveys water conservation methods to farmers

The Regional Centre of ICAR-CIAE in Coimbatore observed the World Water Day on Monday (March 22nd) at Yelur Village (MGMG Village) in Madhukarai block, Covai.

More than 80 farmers took part in this program. It was held in association with ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation Regional Centre (Ooty, TN), leading manufacturers of drip/rain hose, and farm machinery.

Balasubramanian, Principal Scientist & Head, ICAR-CIAE Regional Centre emphasized the farmers to adopt recent technologies to conserve moisture and save water. T. Senthilkumar, Principal Scientist explained about the In Situ rainwater harvesting measures in the field to conserve water.

Followed by these talks, a farmers-discussion forum was held to understand the adoption of these techniques to harness the real benefits in their specific field situation.

A participatory field demonstration was arranged for the farmers. Irrigation water saving kits (rain/drip hose) for modern drip system was demonstrated by KSNM Marketing, Coimbatore; Tractor operated mulch-cum-drip lateral laying machine by Magnificent Engineers, Coimbatore was conducted at the contract farmer’s vegetable growing field.

Also, the farmers were provided with Audio-Visual aids and relevant documents in bilingual form. The program was coordinated by Ravindra Naik & T. Senthilkumar, Principal Scientists of this centre.
