SREC’s unique power-generation tech. to reach public with Ind-US support

Innovative minds see problems as challenges and try to come out with promising solutions. When we talk about innovative solutions, we should definitely take a look at what the researchers in academic institutions are doing.

Take the ones at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (SREC) for instance. A multi-disciplinary team of faculty members from this institution saw that municipal solid waste which are disposed in open land can cause a lot of hazards to the people and the environment as well. They found that the decaying bio-waste, especially the agricultural biomass can emit methane and leachate.

To put these wastes to positive use, the team undertook a research project through which they aimed to create a Bio-Waste Management System and generate Uninterrupted Consistent Electricity, back in 2016.

With the support from the college and government the researchers came up a viable solution, and in 2020 the outcomes of the research – The apparatus for generating clean energy with real-time monitoring and the controlling mechanism was granted patent.

The research team is currently working towards spreading and implementing biogas electricity generation plant in various parts of the city.

To take this project to the right people to benefit the public, The Alamo District Colleges, San Antonio, Texas, United States has granted SREC with a fund of $6230 for disseminating and implementing the patented project for the societal improvement by conducting 3 Days Skill Development Programs for the people in and around the city through for around 125 school teachers.

A press release from SREC stated that the first 25 teachers were trained in the first phase of the program which was conducted from 9th March to 11th March 2021 at the Campus.

T.N.Shivakumar, Proprietor, Energy Corporation, Coimbatore did the inauguration of this skill development program. He highlighted the importance of disseminating and implementing the Biogas Electricity Generation.

N.R. Alamelu, Principal, SREC delivered the presidential address and explained the concept, milestones and outcomes of the project.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Heads of the Departments and the invitees.  The Chief Guest congratulated the team The Principal N.R.Alamelu, and Professors David Rathinaraj, K.Srinivasan, P.Moorthi, B.Sharmila, D.Devasena, K.N.Thirukkuralkani and M.Jeevanantham for receiving the patent and taking this to the society.
