Coimbatore, as of late is coming alive after a hiatus in all activities due to the pandemic. With the The 3×3 League-Cum-Knockout Basketball Fest organized by Alayam Welfare Trust, Coimbatore and Raha Group, the city saw the best teams from various parts of Tamil Nadu step up to show their best in Basketball for four fabulous days from Feb 25th to 28th, at VOC Basketball Court.
The finals of this Basketball Fest was held here on Sunday. The matches were held in several categories for Boys and girls (that include U-10, U-13, U-17, U-21, U-30, 30+, 45+veterans, Open category, Family and 3 Point category ) from 25th of February. The Winners in each category received prizes on the final day of the fest.
During the valedictory event, the Chief Guest Er. Chandrasekhar, President, Tamil Nadu Paralympics Sports Association presented 2 sports-wheelchairs to Sittruli Foundation. The Guest of Honor Lion S.Tamil Mani, MD, Raha Group was present on the occasion. The Special Guest G. Selvaraj, JMD, CRI Pumps and President of Coimbatore District Basketball Association gave away the prize and certificates. The event became a lot more cheerful, thanks to Raha Group for conducting lucky draw, and showering the crowd often with Surprise gifts.
The Covai Mail took the time to speak with Sittruli Foundation’s Founder Guna. He spoke briefly on how sports has a very positive impact on differently abled people. He said, “Differently-abled people are people of confidence and dedication. If they get an opportunity, they will certainly give their best”. He highlighted one such person who has come up in life, a girl named Keerthika. The support from CRI for her education and her love for sports despite her differently-abled state jointly has elevated her now, Guna said. She now holds a very good job. Guna said many such transformation is possible if more generous people could come forward and support.
