Chinese businessman overshadows Mukesh Ambani twice

Zhong Shanshan, dubbed as China’s Bottled Water King is now Asia’s Richest Man, which was a title that was held by business tycoon Mukesh Ambani of India.

The 66-year old has towered a lot of elites in Asia including Ambani and Jack Ma, both held the title as the Asia’s Richest in recent times. Zhong’s net worth is at 77.8 Billion USD, whereas Mukesh’s is reported to be 76.9 Billion USD.

Zhong founded Nongfu Spring – Bottled water, fruit-flavored soft drinks and beverages company in 1996. It launched its first packaged drinking water product in 1997 with water sourced from Zhejiang Thousand-Island Lake. His product is considered as a very popular brand of bottled-water in China.  He also owns more than 75% shares of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy, which is one of the biggest in China.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, he is also the 11th-richest person on the planet, which was also the title held by Ambani this year.  Forbes mentioned that Zhong dropped out of elementary school during China’s chaotic Cultural Revolution. He late had jobs as a construction worker, a newspaper reporter and a beverage sales agent before starting his own business.
