Positive developments await for protesting farmers

Thursday marks the 8th day of protest by Farmers from Punjab in several areas of the nation’s capital, and as of now fortune seems to be on their side.

Sources reported that the Central Government may give farmers a written assurance that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will be set for farm products, which is a part of the demands from the farmers side.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will be meeting Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday to discuss about the farmers’ agitation, after which the Central Govt representatives would meet the farmers unions’ leaders.

The farmers are very firm with their protest demands – they want the 3 farm laws of 2020 to be repealed completely and also be given an assurance of MSP in writing.

If the latter is done, then private buyers cannot procure farm products from farmers below the government assured Minimum Support Price.

Today will be an important day in this protest for farmers. Delaying to find a middle ground in this issue will only lead to further agitations, because the farmers have repeatedly said that they have come for a ‘decisive battle’.
