Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi conducts All India Entrance Examinations for Post Graduate and Doctoral degree programs every year. Top ranked students will undergo their studies at any State Agricultural Universities in India with fellowships.
This year the entrance examination was held during September, 2020 and the final results were published on 06.11.2020. The students of TNAU constituent and colleges have flagged the top ranks in different disciplines of ICAR Exam 2020-21. Among the 14 constituent colleges more than 300 and 200 students were ranked in ICAR 2020 exams for the PG and Ph.D., studies respectively.
A total of 185 U.G students secured ICAR Junior Fellowships from the 14 constituent colleges of TNAU. Among the 185 students of TNAU, Coimbatore campus secured 35 fellowships and horticultural colleges for Women and Horticultural Colleges & Research Institute, Trichy and Horticultural Colleges & Research Institute, Periyakulam got 22 and 20 respectively. Among the disciplines, Horticultural fellowships are more in number (42), followed by plant Sciences (35) and entomology (24).
Among the Horticulture fellowship holders, K. Kalieswari from Horticultural Colleges and Research Institute, Periyakulam bagged the first rank at National Level. The overall performance of the students were better this year (185) against last year (130).
Kumar, Vice Chancellor, TNAU stated that, the students are deserving of the accolades since they have persevered and triumphed during a pandemic. He also noted that, the accomplishment of ranking in ICAR by the students is another embellishment for TNAU.
The student Pavithra has secured All India II rank for the subject Social Sciences, S. Pooja Sakthiram has secured All India III rank for the subject Agricultural Engineering, Naveenkumar has secured All India 7th rank for the subject of Entomology,Y. Durgalakshmi has secured All India 10th rank for the subject Plant Biotechnology and Ms. S. Abinaya has secured All India 17 th rank for the subject Food Science and Technology.
Among the 200 students for Ph.D studies, B. Sreesvarna has bagged Ist rank in Energy Science and Engineering, B. Sreenayana Vendana has bagged I rank in Plant Pathology, A. Sivakumar has bagged VIII rank in Plant Genetic Resources.
