Dr.S.Rajasekaran among Top 2% of world-scientists contributing to orthopedic surgery

Stanford University group, USA has released the list of scientists whose contributions are at the top 2% of their field.  In the field of orthopaedic surgery, there are only two surgeons from India and Dr S Rajasekaran is the only one who has been categorised in the people worldwide who have contributed in the top 1% to the science of orthopaedic surgery.

Scientists were classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields. The varsity group created a publicly available database of 100,000 top scientists and published this data in the prestigious journal PLOS BIOLOGY. 

Dr Rajasekaran’s research in the field of orthopaedic surgery has mainly concentrated in the field of spinal infections, spinal deformity and low back pain. Of the numerous publications, the top 227 international papers of Dr S Rajasekaran were considered for the analysis by the varsity group.

Dr Rajasekaran’s first research paper was published in 1987. This research focused on the problem of severe spinal deformities following spinal tuberculosis and other infections.  This was published in the American Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.  His research work mainly concentrates on the problem of low back pain, disc biology and the problem of severe spinal deformities.  His scientific work forms a good example of bed to bedside research combining both clinical and basic science.

His work has been published in many international journals and they have also been the recipient of many international awards like the North American Spine Society Outstanding Research Award consecutively for 2019 & 2020, Asia Pacific Spine Society Best Clinical Research Award for 2019 and ISSLS (International Society for the Study of Lumbar Spine, Canada) Prize for Spine Research for four years – 2004,2010,2013 & 2017.
