After 10 years, TN Surgeon to receive ASI’s Best Young Surgeon Award

PSG IMS&R’s alumnus to bring ASI’s Best Young Surgeon Award

The Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) recently announced that PSG IMS&R’s alumnus Dr.K.Senthil Kumar, who now serves as Professor of General Surgery at Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Chennai, has been selected to receive the Best Young Surgeon Award -2021.

Among the several thousands of surgeons from various chapters on a District, State and National Chapters, only one surgeon is selected annualy. It is very important to note that after 10 years, this prestigious award is about to be awarded to a surgeon from Tamil Nadu. Dr.K.Senthil will receive this award at the ASI’s National Conference to be held in December 2021, and also take home a cash-prize of Rs.50,000.

He belongs to the 1999 batch of PSG IMS&R. Hailing from Nachiapuram, a village situated 10 Kms away from Karaikudi, Senthil was very much interested to become a doctor since his childhood. During his MBBS counselling, he chose PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research over other colleges, as he has heard from many others sharing how excellently the professors teach medicine at the institution. He did his M.S.General Surgery at Coimbatore Medical College and he has also done his fellowship in Laparoscopy.

“The teaching and training offered at PSG IMS&R is incomparable. Our teachers taught beyond medicine and touched many aspects of life. The major reason for the award that I am going to receive soon from ASI, is the training I got from my teachers at PSG”, said Dr.Senthil over phone.

“I was a hostler. I must say that the learning culture there at the college was so nice. Our seniors will help us and we will learn together. Our professors would be very much willing to teach even after their working and hospital hours. Their dedication level is so high”

“I started working since 2009 and I have been an examiner for surgery past 7 years to various colleges. In 2016, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University selected me as the external examiner for final year MBBS Surgery exam at PSG.  I was the first alumnus to return to PSG IMSR as an examiner. My teachers were very much happy to see me at that level.”

“I like many things about our teachers –  the cordial relationship they shared with us, their dedication to teach and answer questions after the regular hours and their insight on many things about life – all shaped us. I implement all these in my career everyday”

“Education is a continuous process and I am pursuing PhD in Clinical Andrology. I am very much interested in research. I would like to learn as much as I could, contribute to society and make my parents, my alma mater and my nation proud”, ended Dr.Senthil.
