Senior IAS office and current Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu Government K.Shanmugam’s tenure has been extended for a further period of three months with effect from November 2020 to End of January, 2021.

Shanmugam’s tenure was extended at the end of July 2020 earlier and he was set to retire on October 31. However, the Tamil Nadu government requested the Center regarding his service extension. He has been in the post since June 30, 2019.
With the elections fast approaching and the situation in Tamil Nadu with COVID-19 going up and down, the service of Shanmugam is still needed in the State.
