Rotary & Gem Hospital to treat 100 cancer patients freely

Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis joined with Gem Hospitals to conduct a virtual Cancer Care Seminar recently. The event was inaugurated by Rtn. M. Jose Chacko, District Governor RI Dist. 3201.

Gem Hospitals’ Chairman Dr.C.Palanivelu said as per World Health Organization’s cancer registry 1 in 10 Indians develop cancer in his/her lifetime and 1 in 15 die of cancer. Early-stage cancers are completely curable with the new technology and advanced techniques. Using laparoscopic surgery most of the cancers of the digestive system, urology and gynaecology could be effectively treated.

His speech also explained the salient features of Cancer Care Global Grant Project and how it is reaching the underprivileged patients and helping them to overcome the hurdle of cancer as a life threat. Cancer Care is a Global Grant Project of Rotary International under a joint initiative of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and GEM hospitals that is supported by other partners.

Under this project, minimally invasive laparoscopic / robotic surgery is undertaken free of cost for treating specific types of early cancers of the body in gastroenterology, urology, gynaecology and endocrine areas to deserving patients who cannot afford the said treatment All are welcome to identify and recommend the needy people under Lower Income Strata of Society for treatment under this project.

Actress Gautami shared her thoughts about cancer awareness with a touch of personal experience. A Digital version of awareness and Cancer care details was released as a CD by Dr. Palanivelu and Dr Praveen Raj, Director, GEM Hospitals. The first copy was received by Rotary Metropolis President Rtn.Janakiram Raju.
