10th Exams should be conducted before COVID-19 numbers increase further

– Tamil Nadu Government tells Madras HC

Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Graduate Teachers’ Association had filed a case against the State Govt’s plan to conduct 10th Board exams during June 15.  The hearing was held on Monday. Justice Vineet Kothari led panel raised several questions.

The Tamil Nadu Government said that medical experts have predicted that there are chances for 2 lakh people in the State to get affected by COVID-19 in the coming days and it will be better if the 10th Board exams are held earlier.

The Government also said that it will properly follow all the guidelines given by the Central Govt in conducting the exam. It assured that the students will be given full protection when they appear for exams.

A source reported that The State Government has insisted on court that there are chances for the number of future COVID-19 cases to go even higher.

The opposition leader M.K.Stalin has stressed that the parents and public are even more afraid after hearing news about the increase of the virus’ potency to impact humans. He said that the exams should be postponed now and it could be held after it is made sure that there is no chance for COVID-19 to affect people. Till then, Stalin emphasized that the exams are shelved.

Meanwhile, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister for Human Resource Development tweeted “As directed by me, Anita Karwal, Secretary of School Education and Literacy department, MHRD is taking a meeting of all state education secretaries to discuss health & safety of students, hygiene measures in schools & issues regarding online/digital learning in their states.”

There are chances for Tamil Nadu’s School Education Secretary to address this matter (10th Board exams) during the interaction.
