Tik Tok should be banned – National Commission for Women

Value declines after influencer’s controversial video sparks anger

Ratings of Tik Tok is dropping so rapidly now because of a user’s video glorifying acid attack on woman was uploaded. Faizal Siddiqui, a Tik Tok influencer who has around 13 million followers in the platform is that user.

The video was found on Tik Tok and on TikTok. News 18 reported that in the video, Faizal can be seen mouthing “Did the man you left me for abandon you?” before taking a glass filled with liquid and splashing it on his “girlfriend”. The video ends with the woman’s face changed– she has make-up depicting scars after the alleged “acid attack”

Rekha Sharma, Chairperson , National Commission for Women wrote to Tik Tok India’s Grievance Officer Anuj Bhatia explaining the situation and requested him to remove the content and asked the ID of Faizal to be banned. The Maharashtra Police was also informed about the video.

The concerned netizens of India made the hash tags #BanTikTokInIndia and #FaizalSiddiqui trend on Twitter and brought the ratings to just 2.0 stars out of 5.

Many have shown how videos featuring animal cruelty, violence, implicit adult content and other negative elements have been uploaded in the Tik Tok platform for some time. This has raised questions about how Tik Tok is evaluating a video content.
