Dismissing the allegations from opposition leader M.K.Stalin that Tamil Nadu Government has reduced the volume of COVID-19 tests in the State, TN Health Minister Dr.Vijay Baskar said on Monday that 3,37, 800+ tests have been done in Tamil Nadu since February 1 and it is the highest in the country.
The Health Minister said that on average, 12,500 tests are being done in the State for the last 10 days. He opined that it is unfair and unacceptable to throw such allegations and remarks under the name of criticism.
The News Minute reported that Minster had said several factors like the number of people arriving from foreign/other States/Districts, testing of contacts, people with severe acute respiratory infection; all these contribute to the daily total tests.
There may be some variance depending on these factors but the Government has not intentionally reduced any testing, and the Minister stressed that such action could not be done. All tests are done as per the Centre’s protocols.
