PSG Nursing College pays tribute to Nightingale

The Bicentenary of Florence Nightingale was celebrated in a humble way by the teaching faculty of PSG College of Nursing on Tuesday. Nightingale, also known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp’ changed Nursing into an esteemed medical profession in 1860s.

The professors planted a sapling in front of the college’s entrance and Dr.A.Jayasudha, Principal of the college conveyed that they have planned to engrave the name ‘Nightingale’ on a gold-colored plate once the sapling grows as a tree, so that it may inspire every nurse and aspirants who walk across it to the campus.

Speaking to Dr.A.Jayasudha, we learned that all the staff and students of the college have pinned White Heart badges- which serves the symbol of nurses. They bore the message ‘Proud to be a Nurse’. She stated that nursing staff are serving the world in its fight against COVID-19 and this International Year of Nurses is really a year where the value of nurses have been understood by the world.

She said that the students who have gone to their hometown due to COVID-19 lockdown have also shared their solidarity by decorating their home and wearing a white heart badge.

A press release from PSG College of Nursing said “In the backdrop of current pandemic, ICN continues to work closely with WHO monitoring the progress of the spread of Covid-19 and supporting nurses through their ICN National Nursing Associations. It helps to slow the spread of the epidemic, and to prepare other countries to ensure they are ready with a `three Cs’ strategy that ensures they are: Prepared for the first Case, Prepared for the first Cluster and Prepared for Community transmission.
